A group of Cornish divers will be releasing 100 baby lobsters into the sea off Plymouth.

Members of Bude Divers in Cornwall have come up with a clever scheme to help out the Padstow National Lobster Hatchery. And it’s all thanks to BSAC diver Mark Pearce who’s the licensee of the centuries-old HMS Coronation shipwreck site.
Mark realised that the Coronation’s remains, as a no-take zone, would be the perfect place to let baby lobsters grow undisturbed.
You’re probably wondering what a National Lobster Hatchery is. Well, set up in 2000, the Hatchery receives heavily pregnant lobsters caught by fishermen, and provides a safe haven for young lobsters until their release back into the sea.
It aims to promote sustainable lobster farming around the Westcountry and Isles of Scilly.
As the Coronation wreck site is restricted and carefully managed, divers will be able to track the animals and report back on their movement and development.
All being well, Bude Divers will be releasing the one hundred baby lobsters at the end of April 2012.
Should they ever end up in sandwiches, presumably these will be known as Coronation lobster…
