Jacques-Yves Cousteau’s youngest son has launched an online diving network, known as Cousteau Divers.

29-year old Pierre-Yves Cousteau is a IUCN Goodwill Ambassador and a conservationist in his own right.

He originally studied biochemistry and space science to Masters levels before joining NASA.

But after joining the Cousteau Society and experiencing the underwater world, his family heritage clearly was too strong to ignore.

To that end, Pierre has set up a not-for-profit website, enabling the global community of 20-million divers and snorkellers to connect up.

Via the website, Cousteau Divers believes it can monitor marine life and collate data for use in science and multimedia.

In the pipeline is an iPhone app, which lets the user report observations directly from their handset.
